Lee Simmons, 49, of Brookings, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, while receiving hospice care at the Arlington Care Center.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Life Tabernacle in Brookings.  Burial is at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Fairview Cemetery in White. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.

Lee Allan Simmons was born on July 16, 1967, in Hendricks, Minn., to Roger Allan Simmons and Dorothy Dee (Cooper) Simmons.  He grew up on a dairy farm near White and graduated from White High School in 1985. Lee then enrolled in a Job Service program and traveled to Montana to learn the craft of welding. He later returned to Brookings, and went into construction work.

Lee was a warm-hearted man, who made friends easily. He loved to fish and work at construction jobs so that he wouldn’t be cooped up indoors, because Lee loved being outside.  He made many life-long friends, but his best friend was his dog, Patches.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very sentimental person – he easily teared up at anything touching.  He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his father and mother, Roger and Dorothy Simmons of Brookings; four siblings: Shelly (John) Zajic of Astoria, April (Gordy) Clarin of Brookings, Casey Simmons, of Brookings and Joshua (Flavia Cesa) Simmons of California; three daughters, Jamie, Brittany and Emily; one grandson; and two nieces.
