Local Pheasants Forever chapter holds youth hunt

BROOKINGS – The Brookings County Chapter Pheasants Forever held its annual Youth Pheasant Hunt on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Participants met at the Brookings Gun Club to pattern their shotguns, practice trap shooting, receive a hunting safety review, and watch a demonstration on how to hunt safely with a gun dog.

The 19 youth and their chaperones were then divided into small groups for the hunt which took place on four pieces of privately owned property, generously granted for use by the landowners. Hunts were led by Chapter volunteers and several dog handlers.

A drawing was held for a Remington shotgun and a Runnings gift card. Cailey Van Ruler won the shotgun donated by Clites Electric, and Sam Brandenburger won the Runnings gift card.

All youth participants received a camo gift bag filled with various items from the event sponsors.

The Brookings chapter members expressed gratitude to the private landowners, all those who volunteered to help, and the following local organizations for their support of the event: Brookings Gun Club, Brookings Property Management, Clites Electric, Dakota Ag Pro, Midwest Tri-State North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association, Nick’s Hamburger Shop, Olson Masonry, Porter’s Bait Farm, SDSU Shooting Sports Club, Runnings, and Twinbrick Apartments.
