Looking for volunteers, 07-09-19

BROOKINGS – Sarah Lippert, Brookings volunteer connections coordinator for the Helpline Center, recently announced the following opportunities for area residents to become more involved in the community through volunteering.

Brookings Arts Council, Summer Arts Festival face painting volunteer

The Brookings Arts Council needs volunteers to paint wearable art on the faces of children at the Brookings Summer Arts Festival.

The BAC considers this event one of its biggest fundraisers to help support local art in the Brookings community. Volunteers are provided with a binder of 10 large and 10 small pre-approved designs, and therefore should not be required to come up with a design on the spot. All supplies are provided; volunteers just need to bring the talent.

Helpline Center, Summer of DIY – Birthday in a Bag

Each week throughout the summer of 2019, Helpline Center will post a family-friendly do-it-yourself volunteer project for its Summer of DIY. Helpline Center invites individuals and families to choose projects that interest them. Once completed, the projects can be delivered to the Helpline Center office at 619 Fifth Ave. Helpline Center staff will deliver the projects to the appropriate nonprofits. If individuals or families would prefer to deliver the completed projects themselves, they can contact the Helpline Center by dialing 211 to get a list of agencies accepting the DIY projects.

To see directions for each week’s DIY project, visit its Summer of DIY webpage.

For information on these volunteer opportunities and hundreds of others in the community, dial 211 or visit www.helplinecenter.org.
