Looking for volunteers, 11-06-19

BROOKINGS – Allison Schmitt, Brookings volunteer connections coordinator for the Helpline Center, recently announced the following opportunities for area residents to become more involved in the community through volunteering.

American Cancer Society, Brookings Relay For Life volunteers

Join the 2020 Relay For Life of Brookings/SDSU. The annual event will be held form 5 p.m.-midnight Saturday, April 4. Organizers are looking for teams and/or volunteers and will be available frmo 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Oakwood 151 in the Union on the SDSU campus.  Team packets will be available.

Feeding Brookings distribution volunteer

Feeding Brookings distribution will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 27, instead of Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving Day). Help to ensure that even during the holiday season, all individuals and families in need receive food. This includes the distribution before Thanksgiving and before Christmas in which Feeding Brookings provides the fixings for the holiday meal for the families. With many groups from college gone during these times, volunteers and donations of either food or monetary items are appreciated so the group can get the remainder of items on its list. Volunteers will help guests as they go through the distribution line and cleanup afterward. Volunteers may also come as early as 2 p.m. to help set up if they wish.

ICAP, Meals on Wheels delivery volunteers

ICAP is searching for volunteers who are interested in delivering meals Nov. 18-Dec. 27. Volunteers would need be at the Brookings Activity Center by 11 a.m. on those days. Deliveries take about 30-45 minutes. Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.

Holiday Volunteer Guide

Each year the Helpline Center creates Holiday Guides for those who need help and want to help during the holiday season. Separate guides are available for assistance, volunteering, giving, and special events.
