BROOKINGS – Allison Schmitt, Brookings volunteer connections coordinator for the Helpline Center, recently announced the following opportunities for area residents to become more involved in the community through volunteering.

Volunteer Service Bank, medical transport driver

VSB provides rides to medical appointments for individuals who are unable to drive themselves. Rides are provided in Brookings and surrounding communities.

Feeding Brookings distribution volunteer

Feeding Brookings distribution will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 27, instead of Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving Day).

Volunteers help to ensure that even during the holiday season, all individuals and families in need receive food. This includes the distribution before Thanksgiving and before Christmas in which we provide the fixings for the holiday meal for the families. With many groups from college gone during these times, volunteers and donations of either food or monetary items so we can get the remainder of items on our list is extremely appreciated. Volunteers will help guests as they go through the distribution line and clean up afterwards. You may also come as early as 2 p.m. to help set up if you wish.

Brookings Food Pantry volunteer

Brookings Food Pantry is looking for a younger male to help at the food pantry on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Stop by the Food Pantry on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays or call 692-5007 to learn more.

Holiday Volunteer Guide

Each year the Helpline Center creates Holiday Guides for those who need help and want to help during the holiday season. Separate guides are available for assistance, volunteering, giving, and special events. For more information, Dial 211.
