Looking forward to 50 years

BROOKINGS – COVID-19 has changed many of the area’s favorite things to do in the summer. That includes one of Brookings’ largest events.

In April, the Brookings Summer Arts Festival Committee made the difficult decision to cancel the annual Arts Festival. While this decision interrupted the last details, many plans had been finalized.

Two-hundred local, regional and nationally known artists had been juried and accepted to the 49th annual BSAF. Those artists can be viewed, and ultimately supported, by accessing the Brookings Summer Arts Festival webpage at www.bsaf.com.

To commemorate the festival that won’t happen this year, three BSAF committee members met at the Pioneer Park Bandshell this past Monday. Pictured are, from left, Dan Kemp, 50th anniversary and 2021 chairman; Dave Huebner, a founding member of BSAF; and Phil Keller, 2019 chairman. Huebner has participated in every Brookings Summer Arts Festival since its beginning.

Next year’s Brookings Summer Arts Festival is set for July 10 and 11, 2021.
