Loren T. Johnson, 76, of Sioux Falls, passed away March 23, 2019 at Dakotabilities, Sioux Falls.  

Funeral services have been set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019, until the time of the Funeral Service.

Loren Thomas Johnson was born April 22, 1942, in Brookings, the son of Lloyd A. and Bernadine C. (Tangen) Johnson.  Loren was Baptized in the Sterling Lutheran Church, rural Brookings.  

He spent his early years growing up on the family farm under the care of his loving parents, brothers and grandparents.  He loved spending time outdoors, watching his dad and brothers work.  The family dog was his favorite as well as watching TV.  

At the age of 18 he was admitted to the Redfield State Hospital until 1986 when he went to Dakotabilities in Sioux Falls. He made many friends during his stay there. He became the “grandfather” of all the residents there.  Brutus the dog was his best friend.  Brutus had to sleep in his room.

Loren learned to do many duties while living there.  Loren was able to attend many activities such as farm shows, fairs, movies, going to parks and just “people watching”.

Survivors include his brothers, Gary (Paula) Johnson also of Brookings and David (Marcia) Johnson of Brookings,  along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Bernadine.
