Lorna J. Gubbins, 89, of Brookings, formerly of Iroquois, died at the United Living Community in Brookings on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018.  

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. Burial is in the St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Iroquois.  Visitation, with the family present, is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30  p.m. or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.  

 Lorna J. Bensley, the daughter of Wesley and Anna (Kuehl) Bensley, was born on May 9, 1929, in Iroquois.  She attended Iroquois High School. Lorna worked for Raven Industries in both Huron and DeSmet for many years until her retirement. She also worked in the Home Healthcare Industry.

 Lorna married John Gubbins on June 1, 1946, in Iroquois.  They made their home in Iroquois.

 Lorna was a member of the St Paul Catholic Church in Iroquois.  She was also a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.  Lorna enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.

 She is survived by six sons, Stephen (Sheri) Gubbins of Littleton, Colorado, David (Sue) Gubbins of Plattsburg, New York, Darrell (Joanne)  Gubbins of Sioux Falls, Kevin Gubbins of Monroe, Iowa, Keith Gubbins of Sioux Falls and Mark Gubbins of Iroquois; six daughters: Cynthia (Rick) Smith of De Smet, Joyce Delvaux of Brookings, Kay Christiansen of Mitchell, Mary (John) Johnston of Brookings, Theresa (Jack) Young of Aurora, Missouri, and Lynne (Steve) DeJong of Iroquois; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, John; granddaughter, Sharron Rock; four brothers: Joseph, Clarence, Marvin, and Vernon Bensley; and three sisters: Luella Porter, Louise Keelin, and Lucille Schley.
