Lucille Kannas,  84, formerly of Watertown, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at the Brookings United Living Community.  

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday  at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Watertown.  The Rev. Paul Janke will officiate. Burial is at Mount Hope Cemetery. 

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.  

Memorials may be made to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church or Great Plains High School.

Lucille I. Kannas was born on Feb. 2, 1933, to Thoralf and Velma (Smith) Dahl at Watertown.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1951. Lucille married Dale E. Kannas on Dec. 2, 1951, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.  Following their marriage, the couple farmed northwest of Watertown and raised five children.  In 1988, Dale and Lucille moved to Watertown.  Lucille worked at Riddles Jewelry, Leona’s Fashions and Herbergers.

Lucille was a fantastic cook and was known for her amazing pies and pickles.  She loved flowers and gardening, watching the Minnesota Twins, and she was a good Pinochle player.     

 Lucille is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Richard Grant, Jr. of Watertown and Joelyn and Mark Gauthier of Brookings; her three sons, Randy Kannas and Thomas (Rita) Kannas all of Watertown and Ryan Kannas of Sioux Falls; her sister, Marlene Knopf of Rapid City; her brother, Dick Dahl of Hot Springs; her brother-in-law, Dick Brich; sister-in-law, Arlone Kannas; brother-in-law and sister-law, Marlyn and Donna Kannas of Watertown; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her step-father, Arthur Taecker; her husband, Dale; grandsons, Nathan Grant and Brian Kannas, her sister, Carolyn Brich; and brother, Duane Dahl; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
