Lyle Arndt, age 83, of Brookings, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at the United Living Community.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Visitations will be Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Home and 1-2 p.m. on Friday at the church. 

Lyle Norman Arndt was born on June 19, 1936, to William F. and Guida B. (Eggen) Arndt in Lincoln County, Minnesota. He grew up near Hendricks, MN, and attended Hendricks’ Schools. Lyle graduated from Hendricks High School in 1954.

Lyle served his country in the US Army from 1959-1961. He returned home to continue farming with his dad. 

He then moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, for seven years where he worked in a pulp mill and built a home. He left Alaska and came back to the area and lived on a hobby farm west of Volga. Lyle went to work for Dakota Oats in Arlington and then worked at Twin City Fan. Lyle met Jo at a singles dance and they proceeded to dance through life together by blending their families on August 20, 1977.

Lyle was a former member of the Brookings United Church of Christ and a current member of First Lutheran Church.  Lyle loved woodworking and will be remembered for all of his beautiful craftsmanship. He was a loving and compassionate husband and father. He will be remembered for his kindness and sense of humor. Everyone loved his smile. 

Survivors include his daughters, Jodi Stykel (fiancé, Dennis Engbrecht) of Dell Rapids, Melissa (Kurt) Lundebrek of Alexandria, MN, Sheila (Frederick) Feldhake of Alexandria, MN; Vicki (Ardean) Albers of Brookings, and Patti (Craig) Tolley of Brookings; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Delores Browne; and many other friends. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaNita; sisters, Victoria Boyd, Mavis Petersen, and Irene McCoy; brother, Donald; and one great-grandchild, Brooklin.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Brookings Regional Humane Society.
