Mailboxes damaged along Orchard

At least eight vandalized over weekend in Brookings

BROOKINGS – Mailboxes were damaged early Sunday morning by several male suspects, according to the Brookings Police.

The incident was reported at 12:40 a.m. Sunday and occurred in the 1200, 1300 and 1400 blocks of Orchard Drive, Lt. Derrick Powers said.

“Several male individuals were observed walking down the sidewalk and vandalizing the mailboxes (just prior to the call),” Powers said.

“At least eight mailboxes were discovered to have been vandalized,” he said.

The damage ranged from the mailbox itself being damaged to “mailboxes being knocked off the post,” Powers said, adding the estimated damage was between $50 to $100 per box.
