WHITE – A man allegedly kidnapped two people and threatened three others with a knife over the weekend, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Jesus Carlos Lopez, 25, of Estelline, was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, simple assault and intentional damage to property.

He is currently being held at the Brookings County Detention Center on a $30,000 cash bond, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

The incident was reported at 5:10 a.m. Saturday and occurred in the 100 block of West Fifth Street in White, Sebring said.

“(Lopez) had taken a male and female by knifepoint and demanded they drive him to the above residence,” Sebring said.

“Upon arrival at the residence, the suspect broke out the window and threatened three occupants with the knife. The deputy arrived on scene and was able to take the suspect into custody,” he added.

No injuries were reported.
