BROOKINGS – A man was arrested after he allegedly grabbed another man around the neck, according to Brookings Police.
Jayson Marshall, 33, of Geronimo, Oklahoma, was arrested on suspicion of simple assault and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.
The incident was reported about 9:42 p.m. Monday and occurred in the area of Sixth Street and Interstate 29, Lt. Marci Gebers said.
The reporting party “stated he was walking in that area when he had an unknown individual approach him and (the suspect) grabbed the victim around the neck with his arm. The victim was able to push the suspect away,” Gebers said.
“At that point, the suspect took his hat off and swung at the victim, asking him if he wanted to fight or something along those lines,” Gebers said.
The victim called law enforcement.
“Officers were able to locate the suspect and another individual who was present when the assault occurred,” Gebers said.
“Alcohol was a factor,” she added.
The victim refused medical treatment, Gebers said.
