Man arrested for alleged indecent exposure

BROOKINGS – A Brookings man was arrested on suspicion of indent exposure after allegedly urinating in public, according to Brookings Police.

An officer observed two males yelling at each other about 1:59 a.m. Monday, Lt. Marci Gebers said.

“One of them took off his shirt. It appeared as though these males may begin to fight, so the officer had to intervene and separated these individuals,” Gebers said.

Douglas Deverney, 30, of Brookings, entered the 300 block of Main Avenue, she said.

“He began to urinate on a tree. He was facing Main Avenue,” Gebers said.

The arresting officer said Deverney allegedly exposed himself and appeared to be involved in a lewd act, she added.

“Alcohol was a factor,” Gebers said.

Deverney was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.
