BROOKINGS – A man was arrested after calling Brookings Police and they found out he had allegedly assaulted a female, Lt. Marci Gebers said.
The incident was reported at 1:21 a.m. Tuesday when officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Sixth Street, Gebers said.
Tyrell Maldacker, 30, of Brookings, was arrested on suspicion of simple assault domestic and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center, she said.
“The male reporting party had stated that he had been pushed. When officers arrived, they learned that he was removed from the residence by the tenant after he physically assaulted a female inside the residence and then refused to leave,” Gebers said.
“Alcohol was a factor,” she added.
The people were known to each other and there were no injuries reported, Gebers said.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Gebers said.
“The Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter always has a lot of resources for victims of domestic violence,” Gebers said.
The Domestic Abuse Shelter can be contacted at 605-692-7233 or 807 Onaka Trail in Brookings. They have a 24-hour emergency shelter and crisis hotline for victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault and stalking, she added.
