BROOKINGS – A man was transported to the hospital after crashing into a light pole, according to the Brookings Police.
The accident happened about 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of 22nd Avenue South, Lt. Derrick Powers said.
Alexander Prouty, 27, of Sioux Falls, was driving a 1999 Honda Civic northbound on 22nd Avenue South.
“He had a medical condition, which resulted in him leaving the road and hitting a light pole on the east boulevard,” Powers said.
Prouty sustained unknown injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Brookings hospital, Powers said.
He was cited for a failure to wear a seatbelt, he added.
The Honda sustained extensive front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene, Powers said.
Brookings Municipal Utilities was notified about the damage to the light pole, but Powers did not have an estimated damage for either the pole or the vehicle.
