Man injured with knife, suspect sought

ELKTON – Law enforcement is looking for a suspect who allegedly slashed a man with a knife Wednesday night, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The assault was reported at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday and occurred at 48612 212th St. in rural Elkton, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Brookings Emergency Room as a 23-year-old male was transported there by private party,” Sebring said. “(The man) had been slashed with a knife.

“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office has identified 22-year-old Arturo Mendez as a suspect and are looking for him in connection to the assault,” Sebring said.

“He is described as a Hispanic male, slender, with short dark hair and dark eyes, his height and weight are unknown. He is possibly in a white Ford Explorer with Minnesota license plate of 6CB905. He has ties to Brookings and Moody counties,” Sebring said.

“The victim was treated and released from the Brookings hospital. The victim and suspect know each other and are coworkers at a rural dairy facility,” Sebring said.
