BROOKINGS — A suspect is in custody after one man was stabbed multiple times Friday morning, according to Lt. Derrick Powers of the Brookings Police.

Officers were called to the Brookings Emergency Room about 7:45 a.m. Friday after a 22-year-old Brookings man reported he had been stabbed multiple times about midnight outside his residence in the 700 block of 13th Street West, Powers said.

“Initially, there was a verbal altercation with an individual outside his residence. After which, the male suspect came to (the victim’s) residence,” Powers said.

He said the suspect was a 59-year-old Brookings man.

“(He) got into a scuffle with the victim, during which time the suspect stabbed the individual multiple times in the torso area,” Powers said.

He believed the victim was treated and released from the hospital on the same day with non-life threatening injuries.

Powers said although they identified the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, officers were unable to locate him on Friday.

“On Saturday, he did turn himself in,” Powers said. “As of now, he’s at the (Brookings County) Detention Center.”
