Marcia (Marcy) Faye Reisetter passed away on October 19, 2018 (age 71) at Bethany Home in Brandon, following a long illness with a neurological disorder. Marcy was born September 10, 1947, to Oliver and Eunice (Pachernigg) Gottschalk. She attended school in Brookings, graduating in 1965. She attended Augustana College and completed her Bachelor of Arts at South Dakota State University.  She received her Master’s Degree at South Dakota State University and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Marcy married Michael Reisetter in 1969 and they lived in Anoka, MN where he served as an Assistant Pastor at Faith Lutheran Church and she taught at the high school. In 1973, they moved to Brookings, SD where they had their two sons, Nathan and Joshua.  Mike worked initially for The Negotiators in real estate, developed a housing subdivision and started the Dakota Abstract & Title Company. Marcy, her sister, Maury, and their mother, Eunie, had a home decorating and craft business in Brookings as she was raising her boys and completing her master’s degree. She then taught for several years at SDSU in the Education Department.

After completing her doctorate, she moved to Sioux Falls and began her career at the University of South Dakota. Dr. Reisetter taught educational psychology and research methods at the USD from 1999 until her retirement in 2010. In 2005, she was tenured and promoted to associate professor. Her students knew her as a dedicated instructor who took the time to know each one as an individual. She was passionate about training future teachers to improve the lives and education of the children they teach. One of her greatest joys was working with her colleague and best friend, Dr. Rosanne Kirts, in providing classes, in-services and educational presentations to teachers from all across the state and beyond. Her colleagues knew her as a dedicated professional who was committed to excellence and service.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, crafting, traveling, her many dogs and cats over the years, home decorating, sewing, refinishing furniture, and would take on any home project.  She was known for her exceptional flower gardens and making intricate cross-stitch pictures as well as many other kinds of needlework. She had extensive knowledge about Renaissance history, Irish history and ballads, and literature. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren and enjoyed introducing them to music and reading.  She made beautiful bedroom decor for each of them. She cared for her sister, Maury, as she was dying of cancer in 2000.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Maureen, (Maury Larson). She is survived by sons, Nathan Reisetter, Englewood, CO, Joshua Reisetter, Brookings, grandchildren, Kendra and Kalen Reisetter, Brookings; one brother, Mark (Becky) Gottschalk, Eden Prairie, MN; niece, Emily (Shawn) Organ, Minneapolis, MN; niece, Morgan (Steve) Halverson and family, Johnston, IA, nephew, Chris (Chalsea) Larson, Elkton, aunt and uncle, Marilyn and Fred Klawiter, Buchanan, MI; several cousins; and her caring friend and colleague, Dr. Rosanne (Alan) Kirts, Sioux Falls.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date. We would like to thank Bethany Home staff and the hospice nurses and staff from Compassionate Care for the wonderful time and attention during her last weeks. Please direct any memorials to Feeding South Dakota or the Sioux Falls Humane Society.www.heritagesfsd.com.
