Margaret ‘Peggy’ Rue - Brookings

, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020 at the Brookings Health System, Brookings, SD.  Private family services will be held.  Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.  Sympathy cards may be sent to Earl at 1906 12th St. S., #35, Brookings, SD 57006.

Margaret J. Rue was born on Oct. 23, 1932, in Clark, SD, the daughter of Henry and Lyla (Wilson) Kluess.

Peggy received her education in Raymond, SD and was a graduate of Raymond High School in 1950.  She continued her education at General Beadle in Madison, SD and also attended Mankato State and received her Associate degree in teaching.  From 1952 until 1958, she taught school in Clear Lake, SD and Ivanhoe, MN.  She was united in marriage to Earl R. Rue on June 22, 1958 in Hendricks, MN.  In 1958, they moved to Brookings, SD where Earl was employed as manager of the Runnings Farm and Fleet.

 She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings.  She was an active member of First Lutheran WELCA.  She loved to bake and was great at encouraging everyone to eat.  She was well known for her overnight buns and caramel rolls.  She learned to make lefse from the Rue family and continued that tradition for many years. 

She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and loved her Brookings community. Watching Jackrabbit sports and the Minnesota Twins always brought out her competitive spirit.

She spent many weekends entertaining extended family at their Lake Hendricks cabin.  She enjoyed spending time and having coffee with her neighborhood girlfriends.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Earl of Brookings; one son, Mark Rue (Judy) of Vadnais Heights, MN; three daughters, Karol Busta of Little Canada, MN, Kari Popko (Dan) of Stillwater, MN, Kristi Hoffman (Wade) of Minnetrista, MN; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Marcia Olsen (Marlin) of Hendricks, MN; and two brothers, Norm Kluess of Brookings, SD and Jerald Kluess (Donna) of Brookings, SD and one sister-in-law, Kathryn Wenaas of Bloomington, MN.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters and one great niece.
