Marie L. Borns, 106, of Watertown, died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at Jenkins Living Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Paul Janke officiating. Karen Livingston will be the organist.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown and on Thursday prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Marie’s grandchildren, Bret Buskrud, Beth Winters, Jess Edison, Emily Edison, Maren Donovan, Erik Helland, Nate Helland, Talley Borns and Tyce Borns.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Jenkins Living Center or St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Marie Louise Borns was born on Sept. 13, 1911, to Albert and Maria (Gammelin) Pieschke in Willow Lake, and attended school in Willow Lake. She was baptized and confirmed at Hague Evangelical Lutheran Church.
On Nov. 17, 1937, she married Elmer Borns at the Hague Lutheran Church. Marie enjoyed being a farm wife and homemaker and did volunteer work where she received volunteer of the year. Elmer died on May 27, 1980.
Marie was an active member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, H.O.A. Club and Farmer’s Club. She was loved by her children, grandchildren and anyone who knew her. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She also loved flowers and gardening.
Marie is survived by her children, Marlene (Alan) Buskrud of Brookings, Corolyn (Dave) Edison of Watertown, Valoy (John) Nordlie of Sioux Falls and Terry (Annie) Borns of Brookings; nine grandchildren, Bret Buskrud, Beth (Dan) Winters, Jess (Becky) Edison, Emily Edison, Maren (Carey) Donovan, Erik (Lori) Helland, Nate (Colleen) Helland, Talley (Carlie) Borns and Tyce Borns; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; and her siblings.
