Marilyn Jean (Leins) Moberg,  84, of Bruce,  died Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Estelline Care Center in Estelline.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at GracePoint Wesleyan Church in Brookings.  Burial is at Argo Lutheran Cemetery in rural White, following a luncheon and time of fellowship at the church.  Visitation will be held Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.

Marilyn was born Oct. 31, 1933, to Marvin and Marie (Schoenemann) Leins on the original Bill and Kate Schoenemann (Marilyn’s grandparents) homestead south of Elkton.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Marilyn attended rural country school and graduated as Valedictorian from Astoria High School in 1951.

On Dec. 11, 1955, Marilyn married Robert (Bob) Moberg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hendricks, Minnesota.  They lived on a farm near Breckenridge, Minnesota, for 10 years.  In March, 1965, they moved to the West Front Farm north of Brookings.

Marilyn was a member of the Merry Matrons Extension Club while she lived in Breckenridge, Minnesota.  She was a member of the Mystery Neighbors Extension Club and has had perfect attendance for more than 50 years. She was also treasurer of the Brookings County Extension board for six years.  Being active in 4-H with her children was also a big part of her life.

She was a member of Gracepoint Wesleyan Church for more than 50 years.  Throughout that time, she was active with the prayer chain, assistant librarian, Mission Book Club, Women’s Bible Study, Hospice Support Group, Best Year’s Fellowship, Women’s Hostess Team and participated in making many prayer quilts.

Traveling with her daughters and grandchildren was a favorite hobby of Marilyn’s.  The dream of a lifetime was fulfilled when she took a 14-day trip to Europe with daughter, Jolene.  They toured five countries including Germany, home of Marilyn’s ancestors.  Other highlights of the trip were visiting Switzerland, walking the Swiss Alps, and seeing “Heidi” country (from the Heidi children’s books).

Marilyn worked many years in retail.  Some of her employers included Woolworth’s, Ben Franklin, and Montgomery Ward stores.

She stayed home to raise her family and then went back to work at the Brookings Cole’s Department Store in the children’s department.  Later in life she became a “demo lady” and passed out various samples at Walmart and Hy-Vee.

Reading was a passion of hers, along with completing word search puzzles.  She was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning and freezing the fruits of her labor.  She enjoyed genealogy and kept family history alive and updated.

She also collected many recipes and enjoyed cooking many of them.

Family was very important to Marilyn.  She attended as many grandchildren activities as possible; including baseball/basketball/football games, plays/concerts, 4-H/State Fair events, school events, church events, etc.

She is survived by her children:  Carlene (Ben) Taheri, Darvin (Trudy) Moberg, David (Gerelyn) Moberg, Jolene (Chris) Lee, and Doyle (Jodi) Moberg; 14 grandchildren;  five great-granddaughters and three siblings:  Delores (Vergil) Benz, Lyle (Judy) Leins, Clifford (Ardelle) Leins, plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her spouse of 61 years, Bob, and infant grandson Jonathan Moberg.
