Marjorie Francis Quam, 94, of Brookings, SD passed away May 18, 2022, at Avantara Lake Norden Care Center, Lake Norden, SD.  
Funeral services have been set for 10:30 a.m Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Ascension Lutheran Church, Brookings, SD.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m Monday, May 23, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD.
Marjorie Francis Jonker was born on April 11, 1928, in rural Estelline, SD, the daughter of John and Della (Appel) Jonker.
Marge grew up on the family farm southwest of Estelline, SD.  She attended rural school in District No.109, until her freshmen year, when she quit school because of the economy and to help her family.  She returned to Brookings High School in 1962, when she was 34 years of age, to complete her high school education.  Marge completed her last three years of high school in two years graduating in 1964 from Brookings High School.
Marge was united in marriage to Herbert Quam on Dec. 24, 1946, in Sinai, SD. In January 1947, they moved into Brookings, SD.  Marge was employed for 10 years as a checker at Red Owl Stores Inc., and for 32 years as office manager/secretary at the Brookings High School.  After retiring from Brookings High School, she was employed as a part-time dispatcher at Brookings Area Transit Authority, retiring at age 78.  Herbert and Marge co-owned Herb’s Body Shop and Meadowlark Villa for many years.  Herbert died on April 4, 1991.
Marge is a member of First Lutheran Church in Brookings and served on the Board for Congregational Life.  She was also a member of the Brookings Mobil Home Association and the Lake Poinsett Development Association.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, ceramics, going for walks, weekends at their lake cabin, and visiting with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son, David (Shar) Quam of Brookings, SD; her grandchildren, Nathan (Jill) Quam of Brookings, SD, Natalie (Scott) Garry of Dell Rapids, SD and Natasha (Matt) Schrieber of Brookings, SD; her great grandchildren, Ronin Quam, Rorii Quam, Riddick Quam, Rykar Quam, Ritter Quam, Rhett Quam, Hunter Garry, Mackenzie Garry, Brayden Schreiber and Hannah Schrieber.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert died 4-4-1991; two sisters, May Bertelson and Kaythryn Torgersen, two brothers, Raymond Jonker and Albert “Frank” Jonker and one great-grandchild, Kinley Schrieber 5-20-2015.
