Marjory ‘Marj’ Prunty - Sioux Falls

Marjorie “Marj” (Tirrel) Prunty, 83, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Brookings, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.  

Funeral services  are at 10:30 a.m.  Saturday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Burial will immediately follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings.  Visitation is on Friday, March 2, at Eidsness Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m. 

Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marjorie was born on Dec. 24, 1934, in White, to Martha and Steinus Tirrel.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Homer Prunty.  

She attended school at Argo District No. 24, and White High School.  She married Raymond Phares in Hendricks, Minnesota, on Nov. 12, 1953.  They divorced in 1964.  Marjorie married Homer Prunty on July 22, 1966, in Brookings.  

She enjoyed reading, traveling, volunteering, playing bridge, spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.  

She was a member of the Methodist Church, Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Service Bank, Brookings Activity Center, Bridge Clubs, and the American Legion Auxiliary.  

Marj is survived by a daughter, Karen Phares (Mark) Sandager, of Hills, Minnesota; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Thelma Peters, of Little Rock, Iowa, and Dorothy Sletten, of Custer; four brothers, Glen (Betty) Tirrel of Toronto, John (Genie) Tirrel, of Norfolk, Nebraska, Stanley (Janice) Tirrel of White and Robert (Sherrie) Tirrel of Rush, Colorado; and a sister-in-law, Penny Tirrel, of Cornell, Wisconsin.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; former husband, Raymond; infant son, Dale Phares; sister, Frances Kracke; two brothers: James Tirrel, and David Tirrel; sister-in-law, Stella Tirrel; two brothers-in-law, Denton Peters, and Leslie Sletten; and five nephews: Steven Kracke, Scott Tirrel, Chad Tirrel, Kyle Tirrel, and Josh Tirrel.

Memorial contributions should be made in Marjorie’s honor to Greenwood Cemetery, in Brookingsor Fairview Cemetery, in Tularosa, New Mexico.
