Martin Rector Engebretson was born to Rector and Bernice (Hennings) Engebretson on May 16, 1949.  He resided in Revillo area his entire life.  He attended and graduated from the Revillo High School.

After his graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1969 for two years and was discharged with honors.  He worked in the area and met the love of his life, who he called “Honey Bun,” Mary Nelson.  They were married on Oct. 27, 1973, at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison, Minnesota.  From this union they had two sons: Travis (Amie) Engebretson and Jared (Amanda) Engebretson.

Marty worked for the Revillo Farmers’ Elevator for 46 years.  He loved all sports and hunting.  He attended as many of his boys’ and grandchildren’s sporting events that he could.  He would attend Grant Deuel Wildcat and Brookings Bobcat games.  Marty loved his family and they came first.  He loved getting together and spending time with his family.  Cooking for the family and get togethers was enjoyable to Marty.  He was also an avid New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Keeping busy was part of who Marty was.  He enjoyed being involved with the Revillo Legion, Marietta Legion, Revillo Town Board, Fire Department, Town & Country Club, organizing the Wildcat Classic Youth Basketball Tournament, and coached many youth events with Myron Roggenbuck.  Marty was passionate about serving veterans and voluntarily marked the veterans’ graves every Memorial Day.
