Marvin Dean Peterson, 72, of Murrieta, Calif., and formerly of Brookings, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marvin will be laid to rest with full military honors at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9, in the Miramar National Cemetery at San Diego.
Marvin was born Aug. 29, 1994, in Torrington, Wyo., to Alfred and Dorthy (Heller) Peterson. After graduation, he served for 24 years in the U.S. Army and the S.D. Army National Guard. He served two tours in Vietnam and tours in West Germany. He received many awards and decorations.
He was married to Kong Sun Peterson for 43 years. They traveled around the world during his military service and settled in Brookings for more than 30 years.
He was employed by Twin City Fan. In 2015 they retired to Murrieta, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Kong Sun; children, Rebecca (Spencer) Risty, and Tina Peterson; siblings, LeRoy (Myrna) Peterson, Duane (Frances) Peterson, and Rickey Peterson all of Woonsocket and Larry (Robin) Peterson of Pierre.
He was preceded in death by asister, Maureen Revelle; brother, Mark, sister-in-law, Pat; and niece, Theresa Hasecuster.
