Marvin Clifford Stroschein, 95, formerly of Clear Lake, died  at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline on Aug. 28, 2018.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Clear Lake,.

Marvin was born on July 31, 1923, to Ernest and Clara (Timm) Stroschein on the family farm in Hidewood Township-Deuel County. He attended country school to the eighth grade. He received his high school diploma at the age of 65 with his sister, Ethel.

He married Doris Perry in 1952. She died in 1958. He was then married Beverly Sedig on April 17, 1959. They had seven children and lived on a farm southwest of Clear Lake. The family moved to Clear Lake in May 1974. He worked as a custodian for Deuel School, Good Samaritan Center, and the Ramkota Hotel in Watertown. Marv truly loved going to work, finally retiring at the age of 88. Marv and Bev raised a loving family of seven children. They found many reasons to have family get-togethers. Their favorite was every July, a birthday celebration entitled Marvfest! He enjoyed golfing, gardening, socializing, and playing cards with their special friends, Shorty and Fran. He especially enjoyed attending his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

Marv is survived  by his wife Bev; his seven children: Becky Stoltenburg, Tammy Kreger, Jodi Severson, Misty Gates, Scottie Hagen, Marty Stroschein, and Marcey Jones and their spouses; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon (Shirley) Stroschein, and one sister-in-law, Elaine Stroschein. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.

Marv was preceded in death by wife, Doris; three infant sons; four brothers, Earl, Ellis, Leon, and Clarence; one sister, Ethel Propst, and three sister-in-laws: Ragna, Oriska and Shirley Stroschein.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Misty Gates: 105 HWY 22 West, Clear Lake, SD 57226.
