Mavericks take two from Jackrabbits

BROOKINGS – Omaha swept South Dakota State in a Summit League softball doubleheader Saturday at Jackrabbit Stadium, winning 11-1 (five innings) and 10-4.

The Mavericks (13-26, 4-5) won the series 2-1.

SDSU (17-30, 4-8) plays host to North Dakota for a nonconference twinbill Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Game 1

• UNO 11, SDSU 1 (5 inn.)

Laura Roecker gave up one run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts, while the Maverick offense came through with 15 hits and took advantage of five Jackrabbit errors to post the win.

Vicky Kinney went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Omaha. Lia Mancuso, who doubled, and Nicole Warren were both 3-for-4.

Kelly Pattison drove in three runs. Lizzie Noble had two hits, two RBIs and four runs scored. Emily Klosterman doubled.

The Mavericks scored two runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. They had three in the third.

SDSU’s Mallory McQuistan hit a solo home run in the second inning.

Ashlyn Bender was the losing pitcher after surrendering seven runs – four earned – on eight hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.

Game 2

• UNO 10, SDSU 4

The Mavericks again racked up 15 hits, including three homers, to complete the sweep.

Noble went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo homer.

Klosterman was 3-for-3, including a two-RBI homer during UNO’s four-run third inning, which put the visitors ahead 6-2.

Kinney added two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Warren and Kaitlynn Hunt chipped in with two hits apiece.

Roecker picked up another win in the circle, giving up four runs on 11 hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in a complete-game performance.

The Jackrabbits’ Christian McKone, who totaled two hits, blasted a two-run shot in the second to tie the score at 2-all.

Lyndsey Crist led off the seventh with a solo homer and Paige Gerdes, who went 2-for-4, added an RBI double later in the inning.

Julia Andersen was 2-for-3.
