Mavis E. DeBoer, 98, of Brookings, and formerly of Aurora, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at the Brookings Health System, Brookings.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Brookings. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services, Saturday, Oct.  19, 2019, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.  Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.  The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to The Neighborhoods at Brookview Activities Fund.

Mavis E. Murphy was born Nov. 6, 1920 in White,  the daughter of Thomas and Marie (Gehant) Murphy.  

Mavis received her education in rural school in District #105 near White and graduated from the White High School in 1939. 

 Mavis was united in marriage to Donald DeBoer on Feb. 20, 1943, in Brookings. After their marriage they farmed near Bruce and Arlington, until 1961, when they moved into Aurora.  They then owned and operated the Aurora Café from 1961 to 1971. 

Mavis was then employed at the Brookings Hospital in the Dietary Department until 1996.

She was a member of the St. Williams Catholic Church in Aurora and the Ladies Guild. She especially enjoyed Bingo, needlecraft and cooking for her grandchildren. 

Mavis is survived by her two sons, Brian (Gerri Ann) DeBoer of Watertown and Marlin (Rennie) DeBoer of Mitchell; one daughter, Karla (Steve) Carpenter of Brookings,; six grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and two sisters-in-law, Lorrie Murphy of Bakersfield, CA and Alice Knutson of Duluth, MN.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald; one son, Douglas; two brothers, one sister and one grandson, Jesse DeBoer.
