VOLGA – Area golfers waited out the weather at Monday’s Sioux Valley Invitational at Meadow Creek Golf Course, but could only get in nine holes of the scheduled 18.
GIRLS
McCook Central/Montrose edged Deubrook Area, 141-143, for the title as Flandreau finished third with 152. Garretson was fourth with a 160 total, followed by De Smet (161) and Sioux Valley (168).
Baltic’s Chantel Brende took medalist honors with a 38, as MCM’s Taylor Reif placed second with a 42. Jordan Glanzer of Howard carded a 43 for third; Deubrook Area’s Courtni Frank placed fourth with a 45; and the Fighting Cougars’ Kayla Mentele was fifth with a 47 while Kayle Lauck finished off the team total with a 52.
Also scoring for the Dolphins were Maci Colberg, sixth with a 48, and Matti Nepodal, 12th with a 51.
Alaina Cloud fired a 49 for eighth to lead the Fliers while the Cossacks’ Rachel Cotton placed 13th with a 51.
BOYS
Colman-Egan placed all three golfers in the top 15 for a 122 team score while Chester Area placed second with a 129. Howard was third with a 131, followed by Deubrook Area (134), De Smet (145) and Flandreau (149).
The Hawks’ Mason Hemmer and Kade Groos finished 1-2 with respective scores of 34 and 41, while Bodee Groos placed 15th with a 47 to round out the team score.
Howard’s Noah Hodges placed third with a 42, while Chester Area’s Chase McDonald and Cole Pry both carded 42s for fourth and fifth, respectively.
Dawson Blum of Flandreau also shot a 42 for sixth, as Deubrook Area’s Jack Bandemer placed seventh with a 42 as teammate Koby Landmark finished 10th with a 44.
