Men’s basketball adds three on signing day

South Dakota State men’s basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger announced three additions to the Jackrabbit basketball program as part of Wednesday’s National Signing Day. The three incoming freshman will enroll at SDSU for the 2018-19 season and be eligible to play immediately for the Jacks.

“This recruiting class brings three players that possess unrelenting character, a winning mentality and high level skill sets to campus,” Otzelberger said. “These guys will be an integral part of our foundation for years to come.”

Owen King, 6-3, 195, G (Caledonia, Minn.) Caledonia Area High School

Will graduate in May 2018 from Caledonia Area High School (Caledonia, Minn.) ... three-time First Team All-Conference performer (2015-17) ... enters senior season as school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,925 points ... averaged 19 points, five rebounds and six assists per game as a junior ... played AAU basketball with Wisconsin Playmakers ... born Nov. 25, 1999 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin ... son of Brad and Susan King ... has two brothers, Noah and Eli, and one sister, Alexis ... major is undecided.

Aaron Fiegen, 6-7, 190, F (Madison, S.D.) Madison High School

Will graduate in May 2018 from Madison High School (Madison, South Dakota) ... First Team All-State as a junior ... earned First Team All-Conference honors while averaging 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 2017 ... helped team to a second-place finish at 2017 Class A State Basketball Tournament while earning All-Tournament Team honors ... National Honor Society member ... played AAU basketball with Dakota Schoolers ... born Nov. 2, 1999 in Madison, South Dakota ... son of Ed and Patti Fiegen ... has three siblings, brothers Tony and Andrew, and sister Holly ... Tony was a member of the Jackrabbit basketball program from 2010-13 ... father and sister attended South Dakota State ... major is undecided.

Matthew Mims, 6-0, 165, G (Fairfax, Iowa) Xavier High School

Will graduate in May 2018 from Xavier High School (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) ... two-time Iowa State Champion (2016, 2017) with All-State Tournament Team Captain honors as a junior ... averaged 15.5 points, five assists and 2.3 steals per game as a junior to earn First Team All-State and First Team All-Mississippi Valley Conference honors ... played AAU basketball with Martin Bros ... born Oct. 20, 1999 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa ... son of Mike and Michele Mims ... has one brother, Michael, who plays basketball at Loras ... his father, Mike, played baseball at Nebraska ... plans to major in pre-physical therapy.
