Men’s golf team set to host ninth annual Jackrabbit Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – There is nothing like playing at home.

For the South Dakota State men’s golf team, it will host its second home tournament of the year with the ninth annual Jackrabbit Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Boulder City, Nevada.

SDSU, which won the 2015-16 tournament, will host 15 teams at the par-72, 7,402-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club. The front nine will be played on the Coyote Run course and back nine on Desert Hawk course.

Teams will have shotgun starts at 9 a.m. each day, with 36 holes to be played Friday and 18 on Saturday.

The field includes No. 21 UCLA, No. 35 UNLV, No. 70 Nevada, UC Santa Barbara, South Dakota, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Weber State, Northern Kentucky, Binghamton, Creighton, Youngstown State, Detroit and Alabama State.

The Jackrabbits are coming off a two-week break after finishing 23rd in their spring opener at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 18. Junior Jared Nicolls led the team, tying for 107th (78-73-79—230).

For the season, junior Alejandro Perazzo leads the team with a 75.15 stroke average. Nicolls is second with a 75.85 average.

The Jackrabbits have a 305.75 stroke average.

Last year at the Jackrabbit Invitational, SDSU finished ninth. Perazzo tied for 44th (68-73-78—219) and classmate Jaxon Lynn tied for 48th (74-74-75—223).
