BROOKINGS – Organizers of the Brookings Chamber Music Society have tapped a trio of musicians from Michigan to round out its season.

The Merling Trio will perform at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9, in the Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.

The Merling Trio’s name honors Paul Merling, the famous Danish violin-maker. The group is recognized as one of the finest piano-violin-cello trios in the country. It’s collective Polish, Japanese, and Dutch ancestry helps produce an impeccable blend of sound to a variety of musical styles.

The trio made its New York debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 1993. It has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. The trio’s 2016-17 season includes performances in New York, Massachusetts, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois and Minnesota as well as China.

The group is in residence at the Western Michigan University School of Music. The Merling Trio released a number of critically-acclaimed recordings. Its most recent compact disc features works by Shostakovich and Dvorak.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for students and may be purchased at the door. For more information, call the SDSU music department at 688-5187.
