Michael Witte, Preston Keith pace Flandreau at Tri-Valley Invitational

COLTON – Michael Witte placed second and Preston Keith was fourth to lead Flandreau at the Tri-Valley Invitational on Saturday.

Winner took the team title with 224.5 points and Elk Point-Jefferson (161) was second. The Fliers ended up 12th with 38 points.

Witte was runner-up at 145 pounds, posting a 2-1 record.

He received a first-round bye and then earned a 4-0 decision over Parker’s Travis Leber and a 10-7 decision versus Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s Landon Sivertsen.

Winner’s Sam Kruger topped Witte 5-2 in the title bout.

Keith went 1-2 at 160.

He received back-to-back byes to open the tourney and then was pinned in 1:50 by Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Ty Namanny in the semifinals. Keith bounced back by winning by fall in 3:36 over Dell Rapids’ Trystan Stahl, but fell 7-1 to Winner’s Preston Norrid in the third-place match.

Brendan Ten Eyck posted a 2-2 record at 152 pounds. He pinned Tri-Valley’s Brayden Koopman in 4:52 in the first round by fell in 47 seconds against EPJ’s Ethan Marx in the quarterfinals. Ten Eyck followed with a 9-4 defeat of Winner’s Cailob Week in the second round of consolation action before dropping a 13-5 major decision to Lennox’s Mitchell Messersmith.

Tanner Christenson (120 pounds) and Hunter Witte (106) both posted 1-2 records.

Christenson received a first-round bye but was pinned by EPJ’s Zak Fowler in 1:30 in the quarter. Christenson picked up a 7-3 decision over Dell Rapids’ Caden Miller and then got pinned in 1:55 by Tri-Valley’s Carson Norgaard.

Witte opened with a win by fall in 3:21 over Tri-Valley’s Aerin Geary. He fell in 51 seconds against Dell Rappids’ Jacob Vogel and in 3:51 versus Sisseton’s Tyan Johnson.

Owen Peters (126) and Toby Taylor (138) both went 0-2.

Flandreau travels to Freeman for a quadrangular Thursday.
