Miller, Jenkins honored by Summit League

ELMHURST, Ill. – For the fifth time this season and second consecutive week, South Dakota State’s Macy Miller was named Summit League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday. She also picked up College Sports Madness Summit League Mid-Major Player of the Week honors for the fourth time.

The junior guard from Mitchell averaged 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, five assists, 2.5 steals and one blocked shot per game while shooting 62.5 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range and 8-for-8 at the free-throw line in two games.

In the Jackrabbits’ final nonconference game of the season against Dakota Wesleyan, Miller tallied 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists while shooting 64.3 percent from the floor and 60 percent from long range.

The Mitchell native tied her career high with 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field and went 6-of-6 from the foul line in the win over Western Illinois. Miller dished four assists, grabbed eight rebounds and came up with four steals.

For the season, Miller leads the Summit League in scoring, tallying 18.6 points per game. She is also averaging 5.3 rebounds and a team-leading 2.9 assists while shooting 50.2 percent from the floor, 44.3 percent from long range and 78.7 percent from the foul line.

She has scored 20 or more points in 10 games.

Miller has been named Summit League Player of the Week nine times in her career.

The Jackrabbits are host to South Dakota on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Men

ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State’s David Jenkins Jr. has been named Summit League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Jenkins led all scorers with 27 points in SDSU’s 98-70 win at Western Illinois on Saturday, shooting 69.2 percent (9-for-13) from the field with four 3-pointers and a 5-for-5 effort at the charity stripe. He added six boards and an assist over 30 minutes.

It was the seventh 20-point game of the season for the Tacoma, Wash., native, who is sixth nationally in total points among all NCAA Division I freshman. 

Jenkins’ recognition continues a hot streak for the Jackrabbits in weekly awards, as a South Dakota State student-athlete has now claimed the award three weeks in a row and in five of the last six announcements.

The Jackrabbits head to Vermillion to face South Dakota on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
