Miller, SDSU roll past NDSU on the road

FARGO, N.D. – Macy Miller scored 30 points as South Dakota State drilled North Dakota State 88-48 in a Summit League women’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Scheels Center.

Miller went 13-of-16 from the field in 29 minutes of action for her fifth career 30-point outing, including second this season. She added eight rebounds and five assists.

The Jackrabbits shot 59 percent (36-of-61) from the field, including 8-of-16 on 3-pointers. They had 22 assists and a season-low five turnovers.

The Bison finished at 36.5 percent (19-of-52) with 18 giveaways.

The score was 21-15 in favor of SDSU after a quarter; however, the visitors moved ahead 43-24 at halftime and were up 67-31 through three.

The advantage peaked at 48 points – 87-39 – with 3:50 remaining.

“Beginning to end, we played really well,” said SDSU coach Aaron Johnston. “Defensively, we might have had a couple lapses in that first quarter – North Dakota State got loose a little bit – but it would have to be pretty nitpicky to find things that you wouldn’t like about this game.

“Macy was really assertive. I think she’s played really well in January, February, throughout – I can’t really think of too many games where she’s been down, but sometimes she hasn’t scored as much and that’s a reflection of other people scoring. That’s not a reflection of us struggling offensively, it’s just kind of what happens when you have a lot of really good, talented people – it’s not always going to be the same person.

“But in this game, she was really assertive and got to the basket a bunch, especially in transition – that’s where we’d like to see Macy continue to be aggressive; she’s such a handful coming down the floor full speed, she can go right or left and finish. Today, she was really looking for that based on how they were playing her and she did a nice job getting herself to the basket.”

The Jackrabbits improved to 20-6 with their 10th consecutive victory as they reached the 20-win mark for the eighth consecutive year and 13th time in 15 seasons at the Division I level.

SDSU (12-1) remained a half-game ahead of South Dakota (11-1) in the league standings.

Madison Guebert added 18 points and reserve Paiton Burckhard 10 versus the Bison.

For NDSU (6-19, 3-10), Michelle Gaislerova had 16 points.

South Dakota State wraps up the regular season with a three-game homestand, beginning with a matchup against Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Frost Arena.
