Miller, S.F. Christian to battle for A title

SIOUX FALLS – No. 1 Miller (30-2) and No. 3 Sioux Falls Christian (30-8) will vie for the Class A state title at 6 p.m. in at the PREMIER Center.

Elk Point-Jefferson and McCook Central/Montrose will play for third place at 12:30 p.m.

 Miller 3, Elk Point-Jefferson 1

The Huskies took the first set 25-20 but the Rustlers won the next three by the scores of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-17 to advance.

Miller’s Kadye Fernholz racked up 25 kills, 2 1/2 blocks, an ace and 12 digs. Elise Brooks had seven kills and two aces.

VonnaGail Schlechter, who came up with 21 digs, and Josi Stevens both had six kills and a block.

Madison Wetz added five kills, an ace, a block assist and 26 digs.

Rachel Oligmueller dished out 43 set assists and came up with 16 digs.

EPJ’s Carlie Corder had 13 kills, two blocks and a pair of aces. Kenna Curry added eight kills and 1 1/2 blocks.

Karly Marx tallied 28 set assists and 12 digs. Meghan Brewer came up with 24 digs, Ally Nearman 18 and Gracie Holmes 16.

 Sioux Falls Christian 3, McCook Central/Montrose 0

The third-seeded Chargers dispatched No. 2 McCook Central/Montrose in a workmanlike fashion as they won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-18.

Kylee Van Edgdom led a balanced SFC attack with 14 kills and added three block assists, 11 digs and a pair of service aces.

Caitlyn Pruis added 10 kills and 10 digs to go along with two block assists while Abby Glanzer chipped in with eight kills, 11 digs, three aces and a block assist.

Tess Harmelink contributed five kills, a solo block and five block assists; Samantha Fykstra totaled 32 set assists and Jamaica Calkhoven (16) and Kelsi Heard (14) led the defense with a combined 30 digs.

Morgan Erikson’s nine kills led the Fighting Cougar offense as Emily Bies put up 22 set assists and notched 12 digs.

Jacy Pulse’s 16 digs led the MCM defense.

Consolation semifinals

 Winner 3, Rapid City Christian 1

The Warriors posted a 25-13, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17 victory.

Morgan Hammerbeck and Ellie Brozik both totaled 20 points – the former had 18 kills and two aces to go with 10 digs, while the latter finished with 14 kills and six aces. Maggie LaCompte came up with 23 digs.

The Comets’ Tori Altstiel recorded 16 kills and 1 1/2 blocks (one solo). Kayla Clewley added nine kills, 3 1/2 blocks (two solo), an ace and 10 digs. Olivia Kieffer had 10 kills and 19 digs.

• Parker 3, Aberdeen Roncalli 1

The Pheasants topped the Cavaliers 25-8, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20.

Grace Leberman had 15 kills, an ace and 22 digs in the win. Karley Peters added nine kills, two aces and 20 digs. Hannah Even dished out 39 set assists.

For Roncalli, Mariah Winegar contributed 13 kills, three aces and 1 1/2 blocks (one solo). Jami Ewart tallied 12 kills and Hannah Kuck 11 as both players added a block assist. Megan Streier had 39 set assists and 20 digs.
