Milstead: Mills represents us well

The words “honorable” and “trustworthy” come in the form of a man that serves in the state Legislature. I have served two terms with John Mills and have come to respect his unshakeable faith, values and commitment to the current and future well-being of the men, women and children who live in the great state of South Dakota. I use words that hold powerful meaning because the way the title “conservative” is applied so loosely in South Dakota today, it has no truth in it any longer.

A conservative conserves … holds to tradition, values the life God has given us, uses common sense, spends wisely or not at all, regulates lightly, taxes sparingly, gives back when possible and ensures that men and women reap reward from the effort they put out.

John Mills stands for all of that in more than just words. He has proven over and over again by his actions that he stands for the tradition of family, votes to wisely and frugally spend the dollars of hardworking people, lobbies to return the taxes collected that are not needed and is firm in his conviction that every elected official should be above reproach.

At a time when morals are shaky, individual liberty is being overrun by mobs and business, when we are having a hard time distinguishing truth from fiction and as we are watching those who presume to lead prefer “yes men” to those with the character, conviction and wisdom to rudder us through any storm, we should all be endorsing a man like John Mills. And without a doubt, we should be putting a check by his name on June 7. It is a vote cast you will not regret as he works to build South Dakota into a bastion of solid values that spell liberty.
