Mingo, Vining win SDGA Amateur titles

BRANDON – Former South Dakota State standout Megan Mingo and South Dakota junior Tom Vining won SDGA Amateur Championship titles over the weekend at Brandon Golf Course.

Mingo, a Yankton native, built a big lead through two rounds and won by five strokes for her eighth career SDGA title – including third straight Amateur title.

Mingo, who won the Summit League Women’s Golf Championship crown for the Jackrabbits as a senior in May, made four birdies during an opening-round 1-under-par 70 on Friday.

She closed with back-to-back 74s for a 5-over 218 total.

Kali Trautman, an Augustana golfer from Deuel High School, birdied four of her final nine holes for a final-round 69 Sunday. She was runner-up with a 223 tally.

Trautman was also second at the Two-Woman Championship last week at Brookings Country Club.

Parkston natives Sydney Weber (77-75-80) and Sydney Bormann (77-75-81), a sophomore at SDSU, were seventh and eighth with scores of 232 and 233, respectively. They recently won the Two-Woman Championship.

In addition to her three Amateur titles, Mingo teamed with Pierre native and Jackrabbit teammate Hallie Getz to win the Two-Woman in 2016, 2015 and 2014. They did not compete in the event this season.

Mingo won the Junior as a youngster in 2010 and added a victory in 2013.

Vining sandwiched a pair of 66s around a 72 to win the title by two strokes with a 9-under 204 total.

Vining made five birdies in a six-hole stretch to close the front nine on Sunday. He added two more red numbers on the back en route to the 5-under-par round.

His opening round Friday included eight birdies, with four of them coming consecutively on holes 14 through 17. Vining made four birdies in Round 2 on Saturday.

Defending champion Arron Lickteig, of Marion, was runner-up at 206 (69-68-69).
