Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen Competition is Saturday

BROOKINGS – Twelve young women from around the state will compete for the title of Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen 2021 at 1 p.m. Saturday. The teen competition will be held at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center, on the South Dakota State University campus in Brookings. The new Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen will take home at least $2,000 in scholarships, with a total of $10,100 in scholarship funds available to candidates. 

The new titleholder will compete at the 2021 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Competition, which will be held in Orlando, Florida, July 27-30. The teen pageant is open to young women ages 13-17.

 The pageant will feature Payton Steffenson of Yankton, the current Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen. Payton represented South Dakota at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Competition in 2019. No competition was held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Briley Steffensen, 14, Miss Railroad Junction’s Outstanding Teen, Yankton; talent: ballet; social impact initiative: Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make It Do, or Do Without.

• Danielle Nowell, 16, Miss State Fair’s Outstanding Teen, Hitchcock; talent: vocal/guitar; social impact initiative: Firm Foundations

• Hayden Widvey, 18, Miss Hot Springs’ Outstanding Teen, Rapid City; talent: vocal; social impact initiative: Thank the Farmer

• Laney Titze, 18, Miss Coyote Country’s Outstanding Teen, Mitchell; talent: piano; social impact initiative: Art for All

• Javonte Madsen, 16, Miss Huron’s Outstanding Teen, Rapid City; talent: vocal/ukulele; social impact initiative: Why Fit in When You Were Born to Stand Out

• Karina Novotny, 14, Miss Fall River Balloon Festival’s Outstanding Teen, Hot Springs; talent: hula hoop; social impact initiative: Adoption Advocacy

• Kianna Healy, 17, Miss Siouxland’s Outstanding Teen, Hartford; talent: vocal; social impact initiative: Youth Experience Music and Movement

• Kylie Tornow, 16, Miss Rapid City’s Outstanding Teen, Rapid City; talent: poetry; social impact initiative: Women in STEM

• Natalie Schoeppner, 16, Miss Jack’s Outstanding Teen, Timber Lake; talent: unicycle+clogging; social impact initiative: Inspiring Kids Through Reading

• Rio Snyder, 17, Miss Missouri Valley’s Outstanding Teen, Black Hawk; talent: dance; social impact initiative: L.I.P.P. - Look Inside People Project

• Victoria Rainboth, 18, Miss Sioux Empire’s Outstanding Teen, Sioux Falls; talent: vocal; social impact initiative: Honoring Our Veterans

• Zowie Goddard, 17, Miss Brookings’ Outstanding Teen, Watertown; talent: dance; social impact initiative: LOTTA – List of Things to Accomplish 

The candidates will be judged on talent, private interview, evening wear, lifestyle and fitness in sportswear, scholastic achievement and on-stage question.
