Mitch Raihle wins gold for Jacks

SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State swimming and diving wrapped up day one of the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare with the men in third (111.00) and the women in fourth (62.00).

Mitch Raihle won the opening event for the Jacks, placing first in the men’s 3-meter dive with a season-best mark of 340.75.

Day one held only a pair of relay events (200 medley relay and 800 free relay) along with the lone diving event.

Women

In the 200 medley relay, the women’s ‘A’ team (Lily Schimke, Alyssa Eckstein, Kristen Davis, Katie Drezen) placed fourth in a season-best time of 1:44.90.

The women’s ‘A’ team (Emily Pincus, Daniela Santillan, Maria Currie, Elisabeth Timmer) finished 3rd in the 800 free relay in a season-best 7:33.65. Pincus posted the second-fastest 200 free time in school history with her opening leg of 1:50.04.

Men

The men opened their swimming competition with a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay as the men’s ‘A’ team (Jared Miller, Quenton Steffen, Cody Watkins, Henry Skinner) swam a season-best 1:31.87.

In the 800 free relay, the men’s ‘A’ team (Alex Kraft, Reece Stikeleather, Watkins, Damon Venner) finished third in a season-best time of 6:45.11.

Diving

Raihle won the men’s 3-meter dive and Zach Boyd placed sixth with a dive of 283.95. In consolations, Spencer Fritze finished in ninth (259.70) and Erik Thompson 10th (233.95).

The Jacks return for day two of the championships Thursday with swimming prelims beginning at 10 a.m., diving prelims at 1:30 p.m. and final events at 5 p.m.
