MMS math students do well at NSU contest

A group of eight Mickelson Middle School students participated in the Northeastern Chapter Mathcounts competition Feb. 5 at Northern State University in Aberdeen.

They were among more than 70 competitors in the region.

The team received first place, which advances them to state competition in Pierre on March 14.

The members of the team are Nancy Yang, Vanessa An, Albert Shore and Sampada Nepal. 

The eight students competed individually as well. Their rankings are as follows: Nancy Yang, first; Albert Shore, second; Sampada Nepal, third; Vanessa An, fourth; Alex Shore, fifth; Ernest Ting, sixth; Joseph Michna, 10th; and Jacob Prout, 14th. 

Alex Shore and Ernest Ting will also be advancing to the state competition for their individual scores.
