VOLGA – Two crimes committed Monday – a casino burglary and a stolen pick-up – might be related, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

At 4:40 a.m. Monday, a report came in that someone broke into the lottery machines at the Holiday Gas Stop & Casino in Volga and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“The suspect is a white male of unknown age or height and was wearing a hooded jacket, baseball cap and blue jeans,” he said.

“The suspect gained entry through the casino door by throwing a concrete cinder block through it. The suspect pried open the lottery machines with a crow bar or similar tool. The burglary took place around 2:25 a.m., which was shown on lottery machine receipts and video surveillance,” Sebring said.

The Brookings Police Department also took a report of a burglary at Farmers Implement & Irrigation on the Highway 14 bypass, where a pickup was stolen around the same time period.

“We believe the two incidents may be connected,” Sebring said.
