More event, business changes

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Chamber Music Society concert, featuring Trio Solisti, scheduled for Sunday at the South Dakota State University Performing Arts Center has been postponed. A new date for the American piano trio concert will be announced later, and all tickets purchased for the March 22 concert will be honored for the new date.


Brookings Area Transit Authority is continuing to serve the community through the pandemic but with some temporary changes. Its temporary hours of operation are 5 a.m.-6 p.m., according to its Facebook page.

The service is limiting out-of-town travel at this time. Call 605-692-2222 to see if this affects your transportation needs.

BATA asked that riders limit travel to necessary activities and that they do not use BATA if they have any illness symptoms. It emphasized hand washing and said all vans and buses are being regularly cleaned and sanitized

BATA is operating with a limited staff. Be prepared for longer wait times.

First Bank & Trust

First Bank & Trust has temporarily suspended lobby service in all of its South Dakota locations, effective March 19.

The banks remain open for business, and all regular services, other than access to lobbies, remain available. Drive-up windows and night deposit remain open and available during normal hours. Mortgage, wealth management and business/ag banking teams, as well as personal bankers, are available via phone, email or by appointment.

Digital banking is available 24/7, and the call center (800-843-1552) is open normal hours.


Walmart’s U.S. stores have adjusted operating hours to 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m. daily to allow associates more time to restock shelves and clean and sanitize stores.

From March 24 through April 28, Walmart stores will host an hour-long senior shopping event every Tuesday for customers age 60 and older. This will start one hour before the store opens. Pharmacies and Vision Centers will also be open during this time.
