More vehicle burglaries

BROOKINGS – Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers has issued a warning: lock your vehicles and don’t leave valuables in them.

The warning comes after three more vehicles were entered and items were stolen.

“It’s easier for people to keep themselves from being a victim than, oftentimes, it is for us to apprehend the individuals who are committing the theft,” Powers said.

“Sometime (Tuesday) night, there was a vehicle entered in the 1700 block of Torrey Pines, and among the items taken from the vehicle was a wallet,” Powers said.

A vehicle parked in the 1600 block of Doral Drive was also entered and items inside were rummaged through.

“Still trying to determine what was taken from the vehicle,” Powers said.

On Monday, police received a report that a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Squire Court the night before was entered and a wallet was taken, Powers said.

“During the past month, we’ve seen an increase of these. In most of the situations, it appears that the vehicles were unlocked … and valuables were left in the vehicles,” Powers said.

“You look at these three that we’ve taken just this weekend, they were all unlocked,” he said.

“Certainly, just want people to keep themselves from being a victim of this type of crime. Lock your vehicles and don’t keep valuables in there,” Powers said.
