Move-in weekend approaches at SDSU

BROOKINGS – Warm welcomes are important at South Dakota State, which is why the university president may be seen helping students unload a car or pickup. Move-in weekend starts at 8 a.m. Friday.

This upcoming weekend welcomes first-year SDSU students and helps get them settled into their new rooms and become familiar with campus. Hundreds of Meet State volunteers will help the students find their residential halls and move their belongings.

Due to construction in Brookings, Exit 133 is recommended when coming into Brookings from Interstate 29. For recommended routes, visit https://www.sdstate.edu/newjacks17/finding-your-way.

To reduce traffic on-campus, arrival times have been assigned to the new students. Fourth-floor residents should arrive between 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., third-floor residents between 10 a.m. to noon, second-floor residents between 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., and first-floor residents between 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

There will be multiple events, which include a welcome picnic, Convocation, ThumpStart, a Student Engagement Expo and residence hall meetings, where students can get to know their community assistant and other residents in the building.

Classes start Aug. 21.
