BROOKINGS – The Brookings County Museum is offering a $300 reward for information leading to the recovery of tools stolen from the truck of a veteran museum volunteer who has spent hundreds of hours at the Volga museum helping it prepare for the current museum season.

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident believed to have occurred during the afternoon of May 30 as the individual was doing maintenance work on the museum’s new exhibit, the 1884 James Hauxhurst House at the museum complex in Volga’s City Park.

The volunteer had parked his truck in the 200 block of Volga’s West Second Street near the Hauxhurst House. He left tools valued at between $300-$400 on the truck tailgate while he made minor repairs on the home, returning within a few minutes to discover the bag of tools had disappeared.

Anyone having information about activities in that northern portion of the City Park on the holiday is asked to contact the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office at 605-696-8300 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously by visiting or by calling 605-692-STOP (7867).
