New HS football rankings released, Bobcats remain in fourth

Brookings remained in fourth in the Class 11AA South Dakota Football Coaches Association Poll that was released on Tuesday.

The Bobcats got 73 votes to earn the No. 4 ranking. Pierre stayed in first with 154 votes and 30 of the 31 first place votes. Tea Area had 125 votes and the other first-place vote. Yankton was ranked third with 83 votes and Aberdeen Central rounded out the rankings, coming in fifth with 18 votes.

The Bobcats (4-1) will host Yankton (3-2) on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. It is the homecoming game and will likely decide who finishes in third in the Class AA standings. Pierre and Tea Area will settle who the No. 1 seed will be on Oct. 14.

Elkton-Lake Benton remained in fifth in the Class 9AA rankings. The Elks improved to 6-0 with a 50-0 win over Iroquois/Lake Preston. ELB has two games remaining on its schedule. The Elks have a bye this weekend and will then play Florence/Henry in Henry on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. They will conclude their season on Oct. 14 with a matchup against the top team in the other Dakota Valley Conference division. ELB sits in second place Class 9AA standings.

Sioux Valley did not receive any votes for the first time this season. The Cossacks dropped to 3-3 on the season after a 18-14 loss to McCook Central/Montrose. Sioux Valley final two games of the season will be on the road against Baltic on Friday at 7 p.m., and Flandreau on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
