BROOKINGS – New traffic signals were activated June 11 at the intersection of 22nd Avenue and the U.S. Highway 14 bypass in Brookings, according to John Rittershaus, SDDOT engineer.
A right turn lane was also added onto 22nd Avenue at the intersection to help with flow.
“The new signal is a temporary span wire signal which will remain in place until future needs and updates are determined for the intersection,” Rittershaus said. “The signal project was tied with the current Sixth Street Construction Project in which Timmons Construction is the prime contractor. The traffic signal was installed due to the high volume and congestion at this intersection and to help reduce accidents.”
