No. 1 Lynx upend Bobcats

BROOKINGS – The top-ranked Lynx dropped the Bobcats 60-35 in a boys’ basketball game Friday night at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.

Brandon Valley, which shot 44.7 percent from the field, scored 12 consecutive points late in the first period en route to a 21-11 lead after 8 minutes. The visitors were ahead 34-18 at halftime and 46-25 at the end of three.

“Defensively, again, they just kind of dictated things and offensively we did not do a very good job of getting over,” said BHS coach Travis Engebretson. “We had so many fundamental errors in passing and decision making that really killed us on the offensive end.

“Defensively, I felt like our half-court defense was okay but we gave up so many easy baskets in transition or just individual one-on-one defense that we just really struggled with that.

“We shot 25 percent and there was one possession at the start of the second half that was kind of indicative of the game – I think we had four wide-open looks and missed every one of those shots. When offense isn’t rolling you start pressing and defensively we just struggled.”

Jackson Hilton led a balanced attack with 13 points for the victors.

Brookings was 12-of-48 from the field and turned it over 20 times – 15 of which came on steals.

Trent Broksieck dropped in 18 points.

Henry Hammrich tallied 10 markers on 3-of-4 shooting in 13 1/2 minutes off the bench.

Brandon Valley, which sits in second in seed points, improved to 6-1.

Brookings (1-6) plays at Huron on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
